Years ago (just after WWII and yes, years before I was born) my grandfather built a house and with that house he included a solar water heater. My grandfather was such a future thinker, but that’s a post for another time.

I have often wondered why solar energy isn’t more prevalent in our country and the world today. I just read about something that I think is totally awesome as I haven’t heard about the BP Solar Decathlon until now.

Sponsored by BP, twenty teams have been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to compete in the 2007 Solar Decathlon. These teams will participate in a competition to design, build and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home. Here is the cool part - in October (this week as a matter of fact) all of these homes will be transported to the National Mall in Washington, DC where they will form a solar village and compete in contests to determine an overall winner. Each participating entry will be judged on criteria including style, innovation and efficiency.

BP has sponsored the previous Solar Decathlons also which were held in 2002 and 2005. Supporting the Solar Decathlon is part of BP’s larger commitment to the promotion and use of alternative energy. I think this is totally awesome and I wish I could be there to tour the homes and look at the exhibits. I wonder what they do with the homes after the exhibit is over. I’ll have to do some more research to find out.

I haven’t really mentioned it because I think it is probably uncool, so I’ll just hint that my husband received a substantial inheritance recently. I’d venture to guess that we’ve moved from upper lower class to lower middle class, hehe.

Honestly though, we haven’t spent one thin dime so far that we otherwise wouldn’t have spent. I do see a nice Christmas in our future and I have my eye on a nice pair of earrings or maybe some nice jewelry for a change.

You know, I don’t really want something super expensive. I’m especially partial to the Rhodium-plated pierced earrings but maybe I’ll get kinky and get Cammy’s silver handcuff earrings. I predict that this is going to be one heck of a Christmas!

I was thinking about our “tree” where FanceePantzz is being held hostage. It looks a lot like the Stairway to Heaven cat house and our cats really love it. Well, Fancee really loves it because she lives on it now and even takes her meals there.

I was thinking about ordering another one and found a nice selection of pet supplies over at the Internet Pet Emporium.

I want to thank the people that responded to my post about Lilly because I think you understand how I feel about her. I know some people have the mindset that “it’s just a cat!” and I do understand that mind set because I never had a cat of my own until about 10 years ago when I got my Shimmer.

My husband and I lived in different towns before we were married and he would say he needed to go home because his cat Skid had been left alone for a day and I’d say “it’s just a cat!” to him. I could just kick myself now for saying things like that back then. Our cats are just like family to us and they are not “just cats” at all. They are our babies.

I’m flabbergasted. Utterly stunned. Mona (my daughter-in-law’s mother that recently passed away) didn’t have any life insurance. Okay, I think she had a $1000.00 policy but in my mind that’s the same as having no life insurance. I can’t imagine what she was thinking. She had a good job working for a doctor’s office and was treated very well there. I just don’t know why she didn’t have more than $1000.00 in life insurance.

My husband and I have wonderful medical and life insurance through his work, but I’m telling you people to listen up. If you don’t have life insurance this is something you might want to start doing something about it.

I was looking around at options Mona could have taken advantage of. She loved the internet and was on it all the time. There are websites on the net that give tips to get the cheapest quote for life insurance as well as home insurance, car insurance and just about any kind of insurance you’re looking for.

On a selfish note, Mona not having life insurance is going to take a toll on my husband and I. My husband has already offered to pay off her car (she didn’t have credit life on that loan either) so the kids (our son and DIL) will be able to keep it. This is just the tip of the iceberg and I still can’t stop being flabbergasted.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but fall is my very favorite time of the year. This probably sounds odd, but I feel more refreshed, more optimistic, and more ambitious during the fall then any other season. Maybe I’ll finally stop procrastinating and go ahead and purchase the dining room set I’ve wanted for so long.

I found a great selection of dining sets over at Great Priced Furniture and I do believe they live up to their name. I really, really like this North Shore Gathering Table Set.

In addition to great prices, Great Priced Furniture offers a 30-day money back guarantee and GE Consumer Financing with no interest and no payments until February 2009. I’m still looking at other dining sets on their website but so far the gathering table set is my favorite.

It is hard to believe summer is nearly over and fall is almost here. I never did buy the mailbox I was talking about a few months ago so maybe it is time to start thinking about that again.

Mailboxixchange is a neat website that features high quality mailboxes. I’m tired of our current little leaking mailbox so I’m looking at some of the post mount residential mailboxes. We live about 2/10 mile from the hard road so I’d like to have a big heavy duty mailbox as a replacement.

With over 1500 residential and commercial mailboxes it should be pretty easy to find just the one I want.

I’m on a campaign to improve and replace several things in my home and ceiling fans are on the top of my list. I recently found a website that has a selection of more than four hundred unique ceiling fans from thirteen manufacturers. This is the largest selection available online.

When we bought our mobile home a few years ago the people we bought it from promised to install two ceiling fans before delivery - one in the master bedroom and one in the living room. After the home was delivered, you guessed it, there were no ceiling fans installed. There were only a couple of gaping holes where the fans should be. Of course I got on the phone and let them know about it and they said they would take care of it and would send someone out with the fans to install them. Ha! By the looks of the fans they sent someone to the nearest discount store and bought two fans for the blue light special.

I’ve been checking Farrey’s website and looking at some of the fans they have listed there. I think I like the Hunter fans best.

Okay, here is my kind of luck. One week after I upgrade my PC I find out about CensusPC. I could have saved about $100.00 if I had purchased my upgrades from CensusPC instead of having the repair shop do the upgrade for me. Of course, I gladly payed for the repairman’s knowledge and expertise since I have no idea how to upgrade a PC.

All isn’t lost however, because there is always some new toy or piece of equipment just waiting to go home in my shopping cart. I’ve been thinking about holding a contest on this blog and I think one of these USB Flash Pen drives would make a really good prize.

I was looking around at some of the other items and noticed they have large selection of notebook AC/DC power adapters . Now, I’m not interested in that for myself but oddly enough my son mentioned that he needed a power adapter for his notebook the other night when we were out to dinner. He is also in the process of building his first computer so I’ll have to be sure to forward the website address of CensusPC to him.

I often wonder how people choose a drug rehabilitation program. There are tons of drug rehabs out there but I would have no idea how to select one or which criteria to even ask about. I think a person in that position might have a hard time doing the groundwork and searching for the program that is best suited to their needs.

4Rehabilitation.com is a drug rehab referral service that assists those in need as well as their families in finding the drug rehab program that is right for their situation. Your personal information is kept confidential and private and 4Rehabilitation.com is HIPPA compliant. If you are in need of help with the disease of alcohol or drug addiction you can complete the online assessment form or give 4Rehabilitation a call immediately.

This looks like a cool website. There are tons of social communities on the web but Cellfish is set up a bit differently. You can upload media to Cellfish from your computer or your cellphone as well as download to either your computer or cellphone. This makes sharing with friends both online and on their cellphones extremely easy. Your locker at Cellfish is a virtual storage area where all your uploaded graphics, videos and other media are stored.

My cell phone company provides a free storage area for my uploaded pictures but my storage is limited to a certain number of images, unlike Cellfish where you get unlimited storage in your locker. Ummm…. unlimited storage… don’t you just love those words? I know I do! Content will stay in your locker forever. Well, forever is a long time but your content will stay in your locker until you delete it, unless you violate the terms of service or something like that. I think most of us know the difference between appropriate and inappropriate material so I don’t think we have to worry about our content being deleted.

At Cellfish you can download premium as well as free ringtones. I had a good time listening to all the ringtones. I’ll have to download a few just to see the surprise on my husband’s face when he hears them. *grin*

Of course I had to try out the uploading feature myself so I uploaded a few pictures from the loaner computer I’m using.

I like the way I can embed my album into my website or blog and then scroll through it to look at my pictures. When I finally get a new computer or get my old one fixed I’ll be uploading a lot more pictures to my locker at Cellfish.

I’m not sure how I escaped it (so far) but I’ve never had a close friend or family member suffer from Alzheimer’s. My grandfather had dementia and lost a good portion of his memory, but his dementia didn’t progress the way Alzheimer’s does. His memory stayed the same for several years before he died.

My mother-in-law is getting more forgetful each and every day but she has not been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I believe the issues she has are normal age-related memory changes. The Alzheimer’s Association web site has a list of the warning signs of Alzheimer’s as well as a chart explaining the difference between Alzheimer’s and normal age-related memory changes. The site is very interesting to me due to the memory issues my mother-in-law is suffering from and because lately her memory seems to be getting worse. Her doctor is aware of her memory issues and she does have regular check-ups but as a family member I do pay careful attention to her and the Alzheimer’s website has a lot of good information.

I’ve recently become aware of the The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®. This is the nation’s largest event of this type and volunteers of all ages are joining the fight to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 miles and held on a weekend morning in the fall. The walk for the Tampa area was held this past March and the next one is scheduled for October 1, 2008. However, there is a walk scheduled for October 6, 2007 in Orlando that is only a little over an hour’s drive from Tampa.

If you are interested in this charitable cause I encourage you to sign up early and even sign up as a team captain. If you do sign up as a team captain or to walk in your own area after reading this post please come back and let me know. I’m very interested to hear from people that participate in the Memory Walk 2007.

I think my favorite scary movie of all time is the original Night of the Living Dead. I don’t remember when I saw it the first time but I do remember that it was at a drive-in movie. I had nightmares about that movie for a long time. I suppose Night of the Living Dead is pretty tame compared to Halloween the movie.

I don’t like scary movies as much as I did when I was younger. Maybe this is because when I was younger I thought everything in life was a fantasy, just like in the movies. Family massacres? Big deal. It is only a movie - not real life. Somewhere along the line as I got older my thinking has changed. Family massacres and blood and gore are things that can happen in real life. Now when I watch these types of movies it takes a long long time to get the images out of my head and I tend to dwell on the fact that these things do happen in real life.

I have been known to cover my face during the scariest parts of some movies. After looking at this movie trailer for Halloween the movie I’m thinking I’d probably be covering my face during the entire movie! If the trailer for the movie scares the living heck out of me - I can only imagine how the movie itself will terrify me. The latest Halloween movie was written and directed by Rob Zombie and will be released August 31st. If you want to have the living daylights scared out of you mark your calendars. This one looks like it is going to be a winner.

Last week I wrote about the cool way you can get personalized news delivered directly to your browser. I have to tell you though, reading the news at Thoof is almost as bad as watching videos on YouTube. I just can’t stop, hehe. There is always another interesting story to read.

One thing I didn’t go into detail with is the ThoofRank badge. The ThoofRank badge and the number shown on it is a measure of how interesting your submitted story is to readers that have interests in common with it. For example, at the time of this writing the story I submitted on July 26th has a ranking of 48%. That means that my story is 48% more popular than other related stories. That’s a little below average but not too bad for my first try.

In addition to personalized news I’m thinking that Thoof might be a good way to drive traffic to a blog or website. I suppose the only way to know that for sure is to conduct a little test. What I’m going to do is submit a few stories to Thoof and add the ThoofRank badge to them. Then I’ll keep an eye on my stats to see if I get any results from my little campaign. I’m always thinking! *grin*

Blizzard Entertainment has thrilled millions of Starcraft fans with the announcement of their new game Starcraft 2 but personally I never really got into the Starcraft games. I tried to play Starcraft several times when my stepsons were younger and asked me to play with them but Starcraft never really did anything for me. I let them play their Starcraft and I played Diablo 2 and everyone was happy. :)

I do like Blizzard games a lot as evidenced by my WoW addiction and I know several people that are saying they just can’t wait until Starcraft is released. I’m even starting to become a little more interested in Starcraft 2 lately.

One thing cool about Blizzard games are the websites run by the fans. Creep Colony is a Starcraft 2 fansite that looks very promising. I was over there this morning looking at some of the video previews of Starcraft 2. If you are a fan of the game I’d recommend bookmarking Creep Colony to keep track of the development of Starcraft 2.

I know a lot of people in other states talk about retiring to Florida, but hubby and I are the reverse. We live in Florida and talk about retiring to North Carolina. I haven’t been to North Carolina in years but my husband travels there a few times a year to visit his son who is stationed at Camp Lejeune, one of the Marine Corp bases near Jacksonville. Every time he comes home from his visit he says “you know, I’d really like to live there one day”.

My husband’s retirement is still quite a few years away but sometimes I get the bug just to check to see what the real estate market is like there. We have some friends that live in the Charlotte area and I’ve decided that if we ever do move to North Carolina the Charlotte area is one of my first choices for the location.

The luxury homes in Charlotte are pretty awesome but I don’t think I would ever be happy if I didn’t live near water. I’ve been looking at the real estate market in the Lake Norman area. Lake Norman is the largest body of fresh water in the North Carolina area. Fortunately for us (we’re not rich!) the market is strong for Lake Norman real estate with options that range from ranch-style single family homes to multi-million dollar residential properties with everything in between. Lake Norman has been recognized as Money Magazine’s “Top Places to Retire”, “Top 100 Places to Live” and one of “America’s Hottest Real Estate Markets”.

Even though I have my mind set on the Lake Norman area it is still interesting to look at the Charlotte luxury homes for sale. As a matter of fact, the Weddington NC real estate market is one of the top real estate markets in Charlotte. Situated about 15 miles from downtown Charlotte, the small-town charm of this residential community along with the natural environment and community structure make Weddington a desirable place to live.

I mentioned yesterday that I’ve been looking around lately for additional hosting and lo and behold, I ran across an offer today for free web hosting for one year.

As part of their summer sale Easy CGI is now offering a one time promotion of their windows web hosting services. Anyone that signs up through the special promotion URL will receive one year of windows based free web hosting.

Some of the features of Easy CGI’s free web hosting offer are:

  • 99.9% Uptime Guarantee
  • 24/7 Phone Support
  • One Step Script Installation Tool to install some the Internet’s most popular applications.
  • Web Traffic Reports
  • Set Up and Knowledge Base Tutorials
  • Access to some of the Internet’s commonly used tools such as DotNetNuke, OSCommerce, and Community Server

We all know there are sometimes strings attached to “free” offers but I did check the Easy CGI website the best I could and I couldn’t find any gimmicks or strings attached at all. There are 3 hosting packages to choose from and with 24/7 support I think this offer from Easy CGI will be hard to beat if you are looking for windows web hosting.

Whee, I found another coupon codes website. This one has a twist that I don’t believe I’ve seen before. As well as offering coupon codes, RetailMeNot.com is an interactive community website.

At RetailMeNot.com visitors and users have the opportunity to submit coupon codes and subscribe to a weekly newsletter featuring the best coupon codes as voted by the users of RetailMeNot.com. This relatively new website is receiving over one million visitors a month who have contributed 35,000 coupons!

If you can’t find the coupon code you’re looking for you can make a request on the forums set up with that purpose in mind. As well as a request forum, RetailMeNot.com has forums for other topics including coupons, bargains and freebies. If you’re into shopping you can browse or post to the shopping forums. If you just want to hang out, you can do that in The Lounge forum.

I shouldn’t admit this because I already have enough domains as it is, but I’ve been looking around for additional web hosting a bit lately. I found a dot5hosting coupon that I might look into. Can’t hurt to browse can it? :)

Have you ever wanted to read the latest news but didn’t want to sift through stories you weren’t interested in? At Thoof you can have your personalized news delivered directly to your browser with stories and articles that are tailored to your individual taste.

Signing up and submitting a story is easy. Well, I should say submitting an article was easy the second time I tried it. I goofed with the first article I submitted and it didn’t go through completely. The article was there but it showed as submitted by “anonymous”. The sign-up isn’t as intuitive as I think it could be so I recommend that Thoof adds step-by-step instructions for new people signing up. (I know web savvy people shouldn’t need this but I guess I’m not as web savvy as I like to think, heh.)

At first glance I thought Thoof was like Digg, but actually, Thoof is very different. At Thoof you will see a personalized page with stories you will find interesting. After a while Thoof learns what you like and will only show you the articles they think you might be interested in, so each person that visits Thoof will see a different page. It really is a fun website and I had a good time clicking and reading the articles. Be careful though, I think Thoof can become addictive!

It has been ages since I sampled any discount fragrances but from what I recall I never really found one that could pass for the real thing. I prefer to purchase the original, even if I have to use it sparingly.

I wonder what the most popular womens fragrance would be? My favorite fragrance has only changed about 3 times in my life. When I was young my favorites were Chanel No. 5 and Chantilly. Does that date me? *grin* My favorite now is Estee Lauder “Knowing”. I bet that dates me too.

Here is an online sweeptakes game with an interesting twist. To play Bid4Prizes all you need to do is get the lowest unique bid for the prize you choose to bid for and you win. The way it works is that the lowest bid for each prize starts off at one penny. Then, if more than one person bids a penny that penny is not the lowest unique bid and 2 cents is the new low bid and so on. A winning bid could be anything from a penny on up to, well, I guess the sky is the limit.

I bet you’re wondering how much this costs. Playing is free and regardless of the winning bid amount you pay absolutely nothing. This sounds like a fun way to get some free gifts and cash prizes.

This text based game is very user-friendly and easy to play. Think of it as a reverse auction type of game where the winner pays nothing but still gets to take home the prize.

Prizes change periodically so here is a list of come of the prizes that are currently up for bid at the time of this post.

  • $500 Cash
  • All-inclusive Outdoor Widescreen Theatre System (8′)
  • Dell Inspiron E1705 Computer
  • Microsoft Xbox 360 & $300 Target Gift Card

Again, it is free to play and the prizes are really nice. If you like online games why not check out Bid4prizes.com.

I’ve blogged about credit cards a couple of times recently so I guess credit cards are on my mind. We used to have a ton (and when I say ton I mean ton! hehe) of credit cards but we took out a home equity loan a few years ago and paid them all off except one. Well, supposedly one because somehow, and I’m not quite sure how this happened but we’re up to three again.

Okay, I know how it happened. We kept one card for emergencies and this card has a pretty high credit limit. We also kept one card with a very small credit limit that is strictly used for internet purchases. Then I got a wild hair a few months ago because I didn’t have a credit card in my name only (which is important to me) so I accepted an offer from Amazon.com and applied for one of their cards. I really hate this card! The only thing I charged last month was the $14.99 for my World of Wacraft subscription and that credit card company had the unmitigated gall to charge me $2.00 interest on it. I always thought there would be no interest if I paid the full balance before the due date but it looks like I was wrong. If it happens again next month I’m going to transfer my WoW subscription to another card and not use the Amazon card anymore. I was even thinking about using the Amazon card for some 0% balance transfers but I’m not going to do that now.

I’m going to leave well enough alone and not apply for another credit card now but if I ever do I hope I have the good sense to compare credit cards.

I wrote about the PayJr Visa Card about a month ago and how I thought it was a good deal for parents and children alike. Here is some more good news - you don’t have to have an ugly card if you don’t want to. Not that I ever really paid attention to the looks of my credit cards but I know some people do, especially kids.

PAYjr Visa Buxx recently launched (July 11th) with their PAYjr Visa Buxx Competition card design contest. As part of the launch anyone and everyone is eligible to upload and design a card. The public will vote on the cards and prizes include MacBooks, Iods and even a Wii. I know a lot of teens that would love to own a Wii.

The best part of this contest is that you will be able to earn royalties if your card design is purchased so if you have any graphic design skills at all hop on over the the PAYjr Visa Buxx website and upload your entries (you can enter as many times as you like) into the contest.

Maybe there is hope for me after all with the help of graphic organisers to get my thoughts (and bookmarks!) in order.

Way back in the dark ages when I worked for my local civil government I attended several seminars regarding organization not only for work but for my personal life as well. Several of the concepts I learned in my seminars are now being shown over at Graphic.org.

Something that has stuck with me that I learned in one of the seminars is the value of brainstorming. Brainstorming is described as “creative thinking by a group of people designed to generate a number of ideas to solve a given problem”.

Now if I can figure out a mind map to organize my bookmarks I’ll have it made. :)

I bet I have more tools in my house then most people have in their garage. Maybe that’s because we don’t have a garage. We do, however, have a shed but whenever I tell my husband to “get that stuff out of my house” he always says “there is no room in the shed!” I’m getting pretty tired of it.

I believe that just about anything that can be stored in a garage could be stored in our shed and I found some really nifty items for garage storage over at Car Guy Garage.com.

I’m wouldn’t mind having these 16 mixed storage bins with shelving for our shed. I know what would happen though. He’d fill it up and then say “there is no room in the shed!”

Here is a great way to spice up any part of your home with one of your own original photos. At PhotoFiddle.com you can turn your photos into a work of art.

Instead of using tired old prints and canvases I think it is a much cooler idea to use my own photos for home decorating. I signed up for the service and tried it out myself. LOL, I’ve spent a couple of hours on their site just uploading my photos and creating masterpieces from them.

The services at PhotoFiddle seem reasonably priced to me and the service is as easy to use as 1, 2, 3. All you have to do is upload your picture, crop the part you want to use and then apply your design. There are tons of designs to choose from from oil paintings to comic strips to collages to pencil drawings to, well, you name it and I bet PhotoFiddle has it.

Here is an example of a finished product.

So what did we do on our vacation? Nothing. That’s about it! hehe

I just didn’t have the heart to nag my husband to take care of his “honey do” list. I kept to myself at my computer most of the time (so what else is new) while he caught up on all the television shows he had recorded but hadn’t had a chance to watch yet.

Maybe one day we will actually get up off our butts and travel somewhere exotic like Brazil. I’ve heard there are plenty of cheap hotels in Rio. Cheap hotels are right up our alley - it would have to be cheap or we wouldn’t be able to go in the first place.

Every time I think about Brazil that old Barry Manilow song “Copacabana” gets into my head and won’t get out.

At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa….don’t fall in love

(Copa) don’t fall in love
Copacabana
Copacabana

Now aren’t you glad you visited here today? *wicked evil grin*

But seriously, Ipanema and Copacabana Beach really are places I’d like to see in person one day. I just have to figure out a way to get my husband out of his chair.

When I was a kid in high school (of course I didn’t think I was a kid then) all of my friends took a French class as their required language class. Not I. I wasn’t interested in France at all, I was interested in Spain. Instead of taking French I took a Spanish class instead. I enjoyed it so much that I took a second year of the language even though it wasn’t required.

I wonder how much of the language I’d remember if I ever had the opportunity to travel to Barcelona. I was looking at some Barcelona hotels over at the Easy to Book website and I was impressed at just how easy it is to book hotels in Barcelona. I’m such a home grown country gal I’d probably travel all the way to Barcelona and then book my stay at the Best Western Premier Hotel Dante Barcelona there. Not that that would be a bad thing. The Best Western in Barcelona is a four star hotel and looks like just the kind of hotel I’d want to stay in.

I’m always on the lookout for shopping deals and online coupons to help me save money. The newest site I’ve found is called Keep Cash.

Keep Cash is the easiest to navigate coupon site that I have found online so far, and I’ve looked at a lot of them. In addition to their website they offer an RSS feed as well as a newsletter which will deliver coupons directly to your inbox.

I received a $75.00 Amazon.com gift certificate for Mother’s Day that I haven’t used yet. I don’t know what I’ve been waiting for but I’m glad I did now that I found out about the coupons from Keep Cash. I’m going to use my gift certificate along with the free shipping coupon I found at Keep Cash and really get my money’s worth on my next Amazon purchase. *evil grin* I’m always thinkin’!

You can browse the Keep Cash website by store, by category, by recently added and also by which deals are expiring soon. I think I found my new favorite coupon codes website. :)

I’ve been given an impossible task. I am supposed to tell you who my favorite character is from Reno 911! Miami The Movie. I really don’t think I’ll be able to complete this task because I love them all. And that’s no baloney.

Here is a video of one of my favorite scenes from the movie and I just watched it several times trying to figure out who my favorite character is.

Okay, I narrowed it down to a choice between Jones and Dangle - they are my two favorite characters and it isn’t fair to make me choose between them. Of the two I’d say Dangle is the funniest but Jones is the sexiest so there you have it. My favorite is, um, are, Jones and Dangle. But then there is Trudy. I laugh my butt off at some of the things Trudy says and does. I wonder if her character is as dumb as she acts sometimes or if she is crazy like a fox. I had better watch the clip again since I’ve narrowed it down to 3 instead of 2.

I’ll have plenty of opportunity to decide who my favorite character is because the Reno 911 Miami unrated dvd release date is June 19, 2007 - just in time for Father’s Day. I’m always thinkin’! :) I could watch Reno 911! Miami The Movie over and over again and never get tired of it. I’ll be buying the DVD for sure.

After the stressful day I had yesterday I think I deserve to treat myself. Yep, I think I deserve to buy myself a little gift and I know exactly which website to check out for bargains. As long as I’m treating myself I might as well get the most for my money so I’m headed over to Coupon Chief to check out the coupon offers.

I was looking at some of the coupon savings at Target and noticed Target recently added (yesterday as a matter of fact) a $5-$50 coupon redeemable at checkout. I’ve mentioned this before but I think it is worth mentioning again. Coupon Chief has short instructional videos that fully explain the way their coupons work. I was a bit confuzzled (yeah, I made that word up) about the coupons at first but after watching the video it finally clicked for me.

Target has some nice bargains and I might order something from SpaLook also. I believe I’ll just pamper myself. I deserve it. :)

I don’t think there were any programs available like the PAYjr Teen Prepaid Card when my son was a teen but it sure would have been nice. It would have been especially nice during my son’s senior year since he was living with his father during that time and I had to make special arrangements to pay for some of his expenses. In addition to child support I also assumed responsibility for all the extras like yearbook, cap and gown, karate lessons, senior trips, proms, etc. etc. It would have been easier to have a convenient way to send him the money when I got the phone call “hey Mom, I need money for blah blah blah”. Instead I had to meet him somewhere to hand him a check.

These days parents are lucky to have access to a program like PAYjr Teen Prepaid Card for their teenagers. The card is a convenient way to give teens money electronically and great for getting money to a teen quickly in an emergency.

This might sound strange but I think this would also be a good thing for my adult step-son and daughter-in-law. We have wired them money several times and let me tell you, wiring money is not cheap. If we had one of these PAYjr prepaid credit cards we could send them money electronically and save a lot of hassle and a lot of money by not paying the wiring fees.

The PAYjr Prepaid MasterCard card is a re-loadable prepaid card designed for teens but in our situation I think it would work well for our adult son. He is a Marine stationed in Iraq and his wife is still on base in North Carolina with their two small children. Emergencies do come up and in the event we need to get money to them quickly I think the PAYjr Prepaid credit card would suit our needs very well. I’ll be running it by my husband to see that he thinks.

I’m tired of waiting for the well/pump repairman to arrive so I think I’ll have a little fun instead of fretting about something I have no control over. I think I’ll head over to whogets.com and play their online game show. LOL, I haven’t checked but I wonder if they have any submersible pumps for prizes. Now that would rock!

The games at whogets.com are FREE, there is nothing to buy and you don’t get any annoying emails. I just wanted to get that out of the way up front because those are the first questions I always ask when I go to a site with a “contest”.

The value of the contest prizes range from $10 to $600 and all you have to do is sign up and enter. At the close of the semi-final round, seven entrants are selected randomly for the final round. Each of these seven contestants will be able to make a statement of up to 100 words explaining why they should win the prize. During the next 7 to 14 days Whogets.com members will vote for their favorite contestant. The contest with the highest number of votes wins the prize.

I entered the contest for the RCA RTD209 5-Disc DVD/CD System. I hope I make it into the finals. If I do, please vote for me! (AnnaBella)

Again I ask, air ambulance? I never really knew such a thing existed. I’m glad to find out about air ambulance, because this is a service our family might need to use sometime in the future.

My mother-in-law is 84 years and has been living in Florida for the past 30 years or so. She has one bother that resides in Florida but the remainder of her family (that are still living) are all in Iowa. I know she hasn’t been back to Iowa for a visit in almost 10 years and I know she would really like to go. I believe she has resigned herself to the fact that she will never go there again. I’m glad I have found out about air ambulance because now I know there are options out there for my mother-in-law if she decides she really wants to go back to Iowa for a visit. I realize I talk bad about the Old Lady all the time but I really do want the best for her and I feel bad to know that she is sad in thinking she will never be able to go “home” again.

The air ambulance team members are specialists in medical flight. They transport patients along with a team of flight nurses and flight paramedics on-board a special air ambulance that is equipped with start of the art medical equipment. Air Ambulance provides basic to critical care which includes stroke, cancer, heart and transplant patients among many others. Air Ambulance can even arrange to have a physician or even her own doctor aboard. (Fat chance getting one of our doctors to fly to Iowa though, but complaining about our doctors is a topic for a different post, hehe.)

My mother-in-law has has numerous strokes and a few heart surgeries as well as a broken back. She is only operating with one lung and while her situation is not critical, she is fragile and is not able to fly with a standard airline at this time in her life. Air Ambulance coordinates from bedside to bedside to make the patient has the smoothest trip possible. With over 20 years experience Air Ambulance has gained the trust of hospitals worldwide and their support staff is on-call 24 hours a day. I’m really glad I found out about this company.

Have you ever shopped for furniture online? I never have but I have wanted a new dining table for about a year now and I’m finally at a point that I think I can afford one. Soon. Very soon. :)

As I was browsing Best Priced Furniture.com of course the first link I clicked was Clearance Furniture. I’m always on the lookout for a bargain and Best Priced Furniture.com has 3 pages of clearance items. The thing that is really cool here is that a good portion of these items offer free shipping. Are there any words that are a bigger turn on than “free shipping”? Keeping it clean here I will say “free shipping” are the two words that can really get me excited. Not only does Best Priced Furniture.com offer free shipping on clearance items but they offer free shipping on some of their other furniture as well. Gotta love that.

Best Priced Furniture.com offers quality furniture at reasonable prices and selects their suppliers with three major criteria in mind: quality, service and value. All that sounds good but what about customer service? One of the reasons that I hesitate to order from any online store is lack of customer service but you won’t find a lack of customer service at Best Priced Furniture.com. There are several ways to contact Best Priced Furniture.com. They have three phone numbers listed - local, fax and toll free. They have their physical address printed on their site. They have a contact form and of course they have an email address. Best Priced Furniture.com’s customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours (9-5) Pacific Standard time to assist customers by answering any questions they might have before placing their order as well as helping customers find the furniture they need at the lowest prices.

Okay, back to the item I was interested in purchasing in the first place, a new dining table set. We don’t plan to stay in this trailer forever and I’m not looking for anything fancy or expensive. This 5 piece counter height table set is similar to what I have in mind. (And did you notice it has “free shipping? hehe) The finish is a little lighter than the idea I had, so I guess it is time to try out that customer service number. :)

Most of the time I don’t believe in the supernatural, but there is always a little voice in the back of my head that says “what if”?

The trailer for the 1408 movie has made me wonder if anything “supernatural” has ever happened to me. I do remember one time when I was a teenager and my best friend and my brother and I were playing with our Ouija board. It was really weird to see the pointer move around the board and even spell words. We all accused the other person of moving the pointer but we all swore we weren’t doing it. I know for sure I wasn’t moving it. I started saying things like “Ouija board, you are stupid, you don’t know what you’re talking about!” and after I said that a few times the lights went out and we were sitting in pitch dark. We threw that board in the air and ran screaming into my mother’s room where she was trying to get a good night’s sleep. We were so scared we could barely get the words out to tell her what happened. She got up with us and lit some candles. My mother was pretty level headed. She convinced us that is was purely a coincidence. She told us to look at outside at the streetlamps. The electricity was out all over the neighborhood and that convinced us that a ghost wasn’t trying to get us. The lights finally came back on and we eventually calmed down. I’ll never forget the fright I felt for those few minutes.

I haven’t seen a scary movie in the theater in long, long time. I think those types of movies are much better in the theaters than at home on DVD though. My wedding anniversary is coming up in July and my husband and I usually go out to our favorite restaurant for dinner. I think I’ll surprise him this year with a movie date and I already have the movie picked out. Yep, after watching the trailer for 1408 Movie I think that’s the one we need to see.

In the movie, John Enslin (played by John Cusack) is a writer who scoffs at the afterlife and who has written a string of best selling books discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world. Enslin’s phantom free reign of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project “Ten Nights in Haunted Rooms”. Defying the warnings of the hotel manager Enslin is the first person in years to stay in the haunted room. In the last 95 years 56 people have stayed in the room and 56 people have died. They all died within the first hour. I was thinking if I were the author I’d make sure to take my cell phone or something but I’m sure supernatural beings have a way of disabling electronics just like the ghost in my Ouija board turned my lights off.

The movie looks like a good one and I’m wondering now if I should tell my husband ahead of time or keep it as a surprise. I’ll probably tell him because I’m not good at keeping secrets and he hates surprises.

I don’t think I’m going to learn until it is too late but who knows, maybe there is hope for me after all. With the two scares I’ve had recently maybe I’ll actually back up a few files from my computer.

I should use a company like IBackup. One of the things that attracted me to IBackup is the mapping of my online account as a local drive. All I would have to do then is drag and drop and edit my files in my online account. I’m not the most technical person in the world and the ease of use of IBackup for backup and online storage appeals to me.

PC Magazine listed IBackup as the top online file sharing and backup service provider in an article on a dozen ways to boost a small business (November 2006 issue). That’s a pretty high recommendation.

Heaven forbid we would have to take the Old Lady with us on vacation, but just in case we do I was looking for accommodations that would be suitable for our entire family. This four bedroom vacation villa in central Florida is something similar to the type of rental I will be looking for if we all decide to go on vacation together. I prefer something near a beach and not in the central part of the state though.

When I was looking around at the VLBO Vacation Rentals website for different Florida rentals I ran across some information about Harvey Cedars vacation rentals. I hate to show my geographical ignorance, but I really didn’t know there were beaches this nice in New Jersey. Well, I guess I never really thought about it. I’m a home grown Florida gal and have only been out of the state of Florida a few times since my childhood. When I think about beaches I usually think about Florida and the beaches that are very near my home.

I had a stressful day today and I sure wish I was relaxing on this balcony and enjoying the view even if it is in New Jersey, hehe. Maybe I can go on vacation soon.

Boy oh boy, I had a bad scare yesterday. I don’t know if I had a trojan or if my computer just decided to take a dive on its own but for about 3 hours I thought I had lost it for good.

I had one of those boxes keep popping up that wanted me to buy their software to clean the trojan they had put on my computer theirself! After a few minutes of that I could not boot my computer at all - it was safemode or nothing. I finally got it scanned, cleaned (I think!) and restored to a previous date but I’m thinking that might be a wake-up call for me. It is time to stop talking about an online backup for this computer of mine and finally do something about it.

Now, I’m all about saving money and I found a company called IDrive-E that will let me quickly and securely back up 2 gigs for free with no backup and restore restrictions, no bandwidth limits and no file type restrictions. If I need more than 2 gigs the monthly fee is only $4.95 for unlimited storage. I will be definitely be looking into IDrive-E.

I really do live in a mobile home but I don’t live in a trailer park - we own the 2 acres that our home is on. :) When we bought the home a few years ago we always had the idea that we would build a house on this property one day. Now my husband says he’d rather live closer to his work and we’re not sure if we will be building here or not.

I have been putting off doing any improvements, upgrades or enhancements to the home but this year I’ve really gotten into a home improvement frame of mind. One thing that needs improvement at the moment is lighting. Our home faces north and we positioned it to be surrounded with oak trees. This placement makes for a very pretty outdoor view but it also blocks out quite a bit of light.

I’ve been browsing Farrey’s the last day or so and with hundreds of thousands of lighting fixtures, lights, lamps and outdoor lighting my poor mind is going on information overload! That’s right, hundreds of thousands of lighting applications. Now that’s a selection. Fortunately Farrey’s is easy to navigate and I can shop for lighting by brand or application or style. I think my favorite line of lighting applications is George Kovacs but I still have more browsing to do. I just need to decide which ones I like best.

With summer coming up I must be getting into a vacation frame of mind because my thoughts are turning to vacation types of activities lately.

I think I’ve been to Disney World about a billion times (I only live about an hour away) but I haven’t been in several years. One of my favorite attractions was the GE Circlevision Theater. I wonder if they still have that one. If I’m not mistaken this was the attraction that showed technology through the last century. The last time I saw it Grandma was using her computer to input recipes and that was a very future thinking thing to do! It might be worth my visit just to check out this attraction again. I can still hear the theme song going around and around in my head, hehe, “now is the time, now is the best time, now is the best time OF your life…”

One of the things that I really hated about going to Walt Disney World was standing in line for tickets. (I didn’t even have a computer the last time I went.) Welcome to the future, because now you don’t have to stand in line for tickets. You can purchase your Walt Disney World Tickets online (and at a discount) at OrlandoFunTickets.com.

The stars must be aligning themselves just right to finally motivate me to stop procrastinating and start eating healthier. I’ve talked about eating healthier twice in the last day or so and now I find the MyFitnessPal website. I think it is an omen. :)

I used to keep a food diary years ago when I was a member of one of the national weight loss plans and I’ve often thought about creating an online food diary. Now I don’t have to because MyFitnessPal has created a calorie counter for me that also counts carbs, fats and protein.

I signed up with them just a few minutes ago and so far I like what I see. The sign-up process is quick and painless. You don’t have to jump through hoops to use this easy to navigate website and th
